Help?!?

As those of you who’ve been reading for a while might remember, I started a project almost 18 months ago to make crocheted “cancer caps”.  I had a goal last year to make 52 such caps.  Sadly, the events of last spring and my struggle to understand and come to terms with what happened prevented me from reaching that goal.

Since 2010 is going to be a “boring” year for me, I want to renew that goal.  52 caps in 52 weeks.  (I counted the number of Sundays in the year, and there are indeed, 52! ;) )  I finished the first one today.  In fact, it’s my first finished needlework project of 2010! :)

In my original posting about this service project, I asked for donations to help me continue.  I renew that request now.  In my left sidebar, there’s a button that says “donate” and it will link you directly to a page where you can send money to me via PayPal.

I know that times are hard.  So please, if you honestly cannot help at all, do not feel obligated to do so.  However, if you at any time can spare even $5 towards yarn for me to make these caps, it’d be very much appreciated! :)

And hey, if you don’t trust that I’ll actually use the money you donate for yarn, you could always buy the yarn yourself and ship it to me! ;) (email me for yarn brand/address details!)

I’d really love it if, as a group, we could help to donate 52 caps in 2010.  So, if you feel so inclined, please feel free to link to this post on your own blog . . . spread the word! :)

My main goal for 2010 is to make it a JOYFUL year . . . and service brings me great joy . . . and I bet you anything, it will bring YOU great joy too! :)

Making a Difference

Firstly, THANK YOU for all the sweet and wonderful birthday comments.  I got way more than I expected and I appreciate those of you who commented and/or sent people here to comment . . . :)

And now to the business at hand.  You may have noticed over in my right hand sidebar that one of my bloggy friends is Brillig.  (She’s a great gal, so I recommend you clickity on the link to read her blog.)

Brillig made an impassioned plea for help for one of her friends in her blog last week.  Her friend Natalie has two sweet children with a very rare genetic mutation which will require them to both have liver and kidney transplants.  In fact, the youngest . . . little Claire is on dialysis daily.  I can’t even imagine the monetary cost that this family is facing, let alone the emotional toll it’s taken already.

So, this is where we come in.  I know that a lot of my readers aren’t in a position to donate a lot of money, but I would love it if you would go here and maybe even donate a dollar or two . . . I’m planning on making a donation as soon as I get my next paycheque!   Every little bit helps.

And with that in mind, I would love it as well if you’d blog about this . . . spread the word . . . !  And, keep this sweet family in your thoughts and prayers.  Help can come from many sources, and I’ve mentioned 3 . . .

In fact, I’ll mention a 4th as well!  Join the Facebook group that’s been set up by another one of Natalie’s friends.  And then invite your friends to do the same!  Spreading the word in these ways will eventually reach people who are in a position to help financially!

We are an admittedly small community over here at Key~Notes . . . but I know that even though we are small in numbers, we’re big in heart and we can help make a difference for this family!

Thanks! :)

Hats? Off

One of the goals that I set for myself last year was to finish 10 crocheted “cancer caps” between 8 September and 31 December.

In my last progress report, I told you that I had finished 6 of the 10.

I am pleased to report that the last 4 hats were “turned over” to the “liason” with the cancer centre on 21 December! :)

One of my goals for 2009 is to complete 52 hats this year . . . one for each week.  I’ve finished the first one, and have the yarn for the second wrapped around my left hand even as I type this.  (Bet you didn’t know I could type with yarn on my hand! ;) )

That said, I’m not sure I was forward thinking enough when I set that goal for 52 . . . I honestly don’t know how much crocheting I’ll be doing once Zachary arrives.  So, if it’s alright with all of you . . . I’m going to ammend my goal to 20 hats (1 hat per week from 4 January (counting on Sundays) until Zachary’s due date, plus 1 because I am hopeful to get more than 1 hat done during the Easter long weekend).  After that, I hope to do as many as possible, but . . . *shrugs*

I would dearly love to post pics of the completed hat and the hat WIP (work in progress), but alas!  We accidentally left our camera at my parents’ place when we were down visiting for Christmas . . . whoops!  My husband can take pics with his cell phone, but we don’t know (yet!) how to transfer them to the computer . . . Stay tuned for info on that front . . .

Happy Sabbath to all . . . and may you find a way to serve the Lord this year . . . I promise you will find true joy as you do so! :)
